Leave the city

On a dull Monday morning I escaped the thick fog and travelled up over Goldsitch Moss to The Roaches, a dramatic rocky outcrop that rises sharply out of the Cheshire Plains which was once home to a hermit 'The Lord of the Roaches'. With the fog hugging the lower ground it gave the illusion of being above a vast white ocean stretching all the way to Snowdonia. I stayed up there for hours taking time lapse footage and enjoying the views.

Garden Shark

'Garden Shark' by Mark Warrington © 2015, Acrylic and Spray paint on wood, 55x55cm

A monster no more, a synthetic replica is all that is left.
Suspended above a garden of cloud pruned trees and corals, an object of myth.
An idealised interpretation of a long lost habitat, imitated by distant future generations.

Zarelli - Falling Light

Zarelli - Falling Light from Mark Warrington on Vimeo.

A song taken from the album, Zarelli - Soft Rains (feat. the voice of Leonard Nimoy)

Zarelli has taken the 1975 vocal recording of Leonard Nimoy reading Ray Bradbury’s unsettling but vital short story, There Will Come Soft Rains (taken from The Martian Chronicles, 1950), and amped up the sensations with an original composed soundtrack that is (like the story) beautiful, fiery, tragic and tense. This animation brings to life one of the tracks from the album about an automated house which keeps on living long after human civilisation has been wiped out by devastating nuclear war. We see the lasting impressions of human technology living on in the dead landscape.

The animation depicts a moment of tranquility as the garden sprinklers switch on like clockwork and fill the garden with falling light. The animation took around 3 weeks to make in After Effects also involving trips out into Salford to take photos of the the old decaying factories and crumbling bricks and then composing them around the modernist house. Leonard Nimoy unfortunately passed away on the 27th of February which was just days after I finished making this animation so it also stands as a small tribute to him.

Artwork for Model 500 - Sonic Sunset

I was recently commissioned by R&S Records to design a record sleeve for Juan Atkins from Detroit. In the mid to late 80's Juan along with Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May pretty much invented a whole new style of futuristic dance music (Techno) This is his Sonic Sunset LP which was first released on R&S Records in 1994 and has been remastered from the original DAT tapes. He's without a doubt one of my musical heroes so i'm really happy to have been a part of this. The last two images are of the original painting.
